TeachMate is operated by Dean Baptista, trading as TeachMate. For the personal data described below, Dean Baptista is the data controller — we decide why and how it is processed. You can reach us at teach.mate01@gmail.com.

• Account data — name, email address and login credentials, used to create and secure your account. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
• Content you enter — student names and details, observations, lesson plans, assessments, reports, discipline notes, documents and finance records, used to provide the app's features to you. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
• Usage and device data — log records, error reports, IP address, browser and device identifiers, used for security, fraud prevention, troubleshooting and improving the product. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in running a secure, reliable service.
• Support messages — the content of emails you send us, used to answer your question. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
• Push notification tokens — stored only if you opt in to notifications. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in the app.

We do not sell personal data and we do not use your content to advertise to you. Payment card details are never collected or stored by us.

• Service providers and subprocessors — our cloud hosting, database, authentication, file storage and serverless function platform, and the AI provider used to generate optional draft report comments.
• Merchant of Record — Paddle.com Market Ltd, which handles the sale of subscriptions, payments, subscription management, tax compliance and invoicing.
• Professional advisers — legal and accounting advisers where necessary.
• Authorities — where we are required to disclose information by law.

Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the European Union and the United States. Where data is transferred internationally we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you close your account or ask us to delete your data, we will delete or anonymise it within a reasonable period, except where we must keep records (for example billing records) to meet legal obligations.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access your data, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority — in South Africa, the Information Regulator. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted HTTPS connections, authenticated access, and row-level database policies so that teachers can only reach their own records. More detail is on our Trust & security page.

TeachMate uses essential cookies and browser storage only — to keep you signed in and to remember your in-app preferences such as theme and selected filters. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. You can clear this storage in your browser settings, though doing so will sign you out.

We may update this notice from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email, and the "last updated" date above will change.
